Hi Barbara,
-> Vilano Beach or Guano is nice, north of St Augustine.
Guano doesn't sound nice, and it makes caves smell real bad.
My sister lives south of there, closer to Crescent. It's real nice
there- dunes and a real wide beach. St. Aug has lost most of its beach.
-> About 35 mi S of Jacksonville, and 35-40 mi W of St Aug., about 30 mi
-> N of Palatka. Close to the river but not my property.
That's one big, beautiful river. Sounds like a very nice spot to live.
I bet you have lots of wild birds like we do here, on the lake.
-> At one neary last year that was indoors in a rather large hall, but
-> crowded, two babies were stolen from dealers, one was a gray and the
-> other a greenwing.
That's so terrible. Just another horror story from those bird fairs. I
have to wonder what kind of care those poor babies got from the thieves.
-> I am beginning to study and read more and more on virology and
-> origins of same. I am fascinated by Ebola virus as what it does to
-> certain animal's/people's insides acts much like the polyoma virus in
-> birds. "Outbreak" the book and movie fascinated me as did "The Hot
-> Zone" a book about an Ebola outbreak in Washington DC in the
-> 1980's. Matter of factly I just saw that the two chief USAMRID
-> (equivalent Army's version to CDC) veterinarians that handled the
-> virology "hot" zone and lab in that outbreak are now breeding
-> birds! I bet those birds are virally clean and tested!
It fascinates me too, Barbara- I read "The Hot Zone" too. The most
horrific part to me was when they realized the monkeys were getting it
through the AIR DUCTS too. I hope those vets will come up with some new
insight into avian viruses.
-> JT>My sister is a biology teacher, so she naturally is drawn to all
-> Where does she teach?
Don't remember the name of the school- It's in S. Jacksonville and draws
beach kids mainly. They want to surf more than study.
-> Well, I got some more kakariki's but that's about it.
What are kakarikis????
-> Would probably depend on his physical capabilities and his desire and
-> ability to rise to a challenge.
His MS is Chronic Progressive, unfortunately and he can only walk a few
steps now. I think my sister would have to take care of a bird, if they
got one, and I'm not sure that she has time.
