Actually, you _can,_ in general, put a detachable high-cap mag into an
SKS - but _if_and_only_if_ you first add a monte-carlo style stock _and_
grind off all traces of the bayonet lugs. This action, however, removes
it irrevocably from the "Curio and Relics" list.
American Rifleman had an article researching this with BATF quite a
while back. I even bought one 30-rounder (still in its plastic
bubble-pac) mag but decided I wanted to keep it in "original" condition.
Note: I'm not a lawyer, etc. etc. Write the ATF and get a letter from
them stating what you need do for the conversion and then you "should"
be OK.
