SH> Symantec identifies the origin of VBS.LoveLetter aka Lovebug as
SH> Manila. The last time I looked, that was in Asia.

I was wondering why you assumed that the majority of viruses
originated in Asia.

SH> If the originator is that sophisticated. The author also needs to
SH> know what will give the virus the most bang for the buck and since many
SH> people are less than careful about their virus protection, how the
SH> anti-virus program works may not be a major concern.

Yes, it MAY not. But a halfway smart originator wil realise that
a virus that can creep through the most common types of
protection will give an even bigger "bang".

While some of the virus originators are pretty stupid people, I
have no doubts at all that there are some very intelligent,
although twisted, people originating viruses.

SH> To each his own. I already have a hardware firewall, a software
SH> firewall, a virus checker, some security software other than the virus
SH> checker, and I don't open files or email attachments unless I can

Yup, you're covered just about every which way. That's exactly
what I was saying was the smart way to go

SH> establish their source. Remember that Lovebug would have infected
SH> noone unless he or she actually opened the note.

Which is why people are advised to turn off the feature where IE
automatically opens any email attachments.
