| subject: | Cable to Transfer from 1541 to IBM PC Parallel |
Hi there, If anyone out there has made up a cable for transferring data from a 1541 diskette drive to an IBM PC parallel port according to the wiring diagram provided by the 1541.EXE file included in the archive C64EMU.ARJ (It is in the IBM MISCELLANEOUS FILES area on 500CC Formula One BBS and is also on Way Out West BBS) I would be grateful to hear from you as to whether your cable worked or not. I have soldered together my own following the diagram but when I run the 1541.EXE program which allows you to make transfers it hangs when I try to seek from the 1541 drive. I am not very experienced in electronics and wiring and was hoping that one of you more experienced users might be able to help me out. I have posted this message in this echo because I remember reading about someone having succeeded in making this cable several months back, and I recall another message where someone noted that data transfers could more easily be made on a C128 which has a parallel port at back. If anyone has made the cable I am referring to and has made successful transfers with it from a 1541 to PC parallel port, I would be very, very interested in hearing from you. Basically I want to get my hands on a working cable and am willing to pay someone experienced in wiring to make one up for me, but preferably someone who has already wired up their own cable which they have used themselves and know to be working. Alternatively, I would really like to hear from anyone out there who knows how to transfer data from a C128 parallel port to an IBM PC clone parallel port. Do you connect the 1541 to the C128 and a parallel cable from C128 parallel port to IBM PC clone parallel port, then what? Is software needed, if so what? Or do you just use commands, if so what are they? If anyone out there is willing to lend me a cable to use that would also be cool.:-) Finally, can anyone tell me if special software is needed to access the Commodore Pursuit BBS using an IBM PC clone. I tried it once before and it didn't seem to connect. I download TBBS software or something like that and tried it but I never got there. How is it done? I would be very grateful for any responses on these problems.
