subject: bad archive

.. One fine day, Paul waffled to Dieter..

 Hello Paul,

PE> Dieter, you sent me an archive today that had 32 bytes of junk
PE> before the zip header (according to info-zip), and it ended
PE> with a whole lot of crap. What went wrong? 11 messages were
PE> able to be processed after manual intervention. The archive
PE> you sent me was 7712 bytes in length.

 There were 12 messages.

PE> Also, there were some problems when you tried to send me the
PE> archive (Binkley has recorded some ZCRCW errors). Do you have
PE> the packet you sent me? If you do, can you zip it up into
PE> a file called dieter.zip or something (ie zip the 00000008.MO0
PE> into dieter.zip) and send it to me so that I can take a look.

Unfortunately, I don't have the 00000008.MO0 archive, only the
original rep packet, which I'm sending, but it looks alright.

PE> Any ideas on any strange things you were doing for both of
 PE> these problems to occur?

I've noticed a large number of retries during the upload process
lately. Telix shows an initial transfer of say 80%, and then
retries several times, with the percentage counter dropping to a
much lower value, say 25%, and then constant retries until the
 entire upload is sent.

Downloads are OK - no retries at all.

I seem to recall Rod and Bill mentioned something about this about a
month ago, but for some reason I hadn't replied to it. Have now
 though, in this packet.

 Dieter
