We had to learn that, too--it was actually pretty simple once you got 
used to the idea of sticking a needle in the cat.  However, she 
tolerated it very well and really didn't mind too much (except for the 
one day she wasn't terribly interested in the process and got up and 
walked away, leaving us to try to grab the saline-solution spraying 
syringe before it made too big a mess!).
