 15 degrees below normal where you live is nasty no matter what the
 absolute temperature is. So is 10 degrees hotter than normal in the
 summertime.

Reveillon is French for awake and is used for both Christmas Eve
and New Year's Eve dinners as the former is eaten after Midnight
Mass and the latter is likely to carry on past midnight.

The etymology of Cipaille is obscure. One story is that English
sailors had ground meat pies they called Sea Pies. The English seized
Quebec from the French in a war in 1759 and may have called the
tourtieres they came across "sea-pies" which the French heard as
"ci pate" or cipaille.
