Hello Mike -

CA>> Not to belittle your comments in any way but frankly who
CA>> cares?

MR> I share your anger and apathy. Actually perhaps the real
MR> problem is the apathy. Apathy in particular from a
MR> government who just wants results, such as budget cutbacks,
MR> or flashy headlines, without regard to the possible
MR> endangering of the people involved. I'm not saying the
MR> government deliberately causes this but the results are the
MR> same.

NASA got a budget _increase_ for these murders. What does that
indicate?

CA>> NASA keeps waving this as a huge mystery as though solving
CA>> it will make everything OK.

MR> It wasn't a mystery to the engineers who complained about
MR> it and who were ignored by the project manager.

Exactly so what are these jack*ss NASA people trying to 'prove'
that we don't already know?

CA>> There are contingency plans and there were requests made
CA>> for hires pix of the shuttle while it was in orbit to
CA>> examine it for damage and they were denied arbitrarilly by
CA>> a person or persons that I would put on trial for homicide
CA>> if it was up to me.

MR> BTW the shuttle program manager Ron Dittemore resigned his
MR> job. He may have been pushed out but he may simply have
MR> been whisked away into the shadows from the embarassing
MR> scrutiny of the limelight.

I call that a murderer on the run. Hitler's SS ran away and hid
too.

CA>> NASA can't distract me with "watch Mr. Wizard" cr*p. They
CA>> _killed_ those people with their incompetent behaviour and
CA>> should be arrested and made to defend themselves for the
CA>> crimes they committted.

MR> It isn't really fair to make a manager responsible for
MR> every single little rivet that goes into making that
MR> spacecraft. Shit happens!

NO NO NO! That's exactly what killed these people. These
so-called managers _claim_ responsibility when they calculate
their salaries and when something goes wrong they fire the
peons. NO WAY! I would prosecute for murder from the top down.

MR> But in the case of Columbia clearly decisions were taken
MR> based on groundless circumstantial assumptions. IOW just
MR> because there were no accidents with previous foam falling
MR> events didn't mean there was no problem. Whether the
MR> decisions taken were right or wrong doesn't really matter
MR> now but the basis on which they were made was flawed.
MR> That's what the manager's judgment or lack of is really
MR> responsible for.

It's called incompetent. Gross negligence leading to a wrongful
death is at least manslaughter in this country.

CA>> NASA has outlived it's useful life and should be shut down
CA>> period.

MR> I think you're going too far but NASA should be
MR> restructured as a scientific overseeing agency rather than
MR> as an integrator of space capabilities. The building and
MR> launching duties should belong to separate "rocketry"
MR> agencies and the scientific goals and standards of these
MR> overseen by NASA. In other words the 2nd "A" stands for
MR> "Administration". As such NASA should remain involved in
MR> the training of personel and steering of the space program,
MR> whatever it may be.

How can you say that? It was the LACK of management competence
that caused these deaths and you want to keep them at the
trough at high paying jobs and turn the low paying jobs over to
other more competent peple to do their jobs FOR them?

This is exactly backwards. Give the managers who aren't found
guilty of murder/manslaughter a broom and let them sweep the
tarmack or just slap the sh*t out of them and toss them in the
street.
