It's how the program was designed to work.  GAP BBS will work under OS/2
¨beautifully if I use a front-end mailer to pass the comport to the BBS,
but the ¨internal WFC program expects a particular code sent back from the
modem that ¨SIO won't/doesn't do.  I did get it to work once, but alas,
I've forgotten how.
