EC>-> EC>Then you passed on an anonymous rumor and even endorsed it as
EC>-> being EC>"really" true without taking due care to
see if it was
EC>-> true, and you EC>did it in a fit of anger and an extended tirade
EC>-> against the person EC>you accused.

EC>-> A perfect example of the liberal gospel rule in action.

EC>Be that as it may, the unfortunate result is that Bob will go off to
EC>his echo and Ceppa's echo to chat with a few people who agree with
EC>him just as Politics and All-Politics have mainly become forums for
EC>people who agree with each other on most things. THIS echo was
EC>supposed to be an opportunity for people to DISagree with each other
EC>without worrying about a trigger-happy moderator jumping in and
EC>issuing warnings about discussion of King Tut's military experience
EC>(as Klahn did recently in his echo). The rules were cut down to a
EC>bare minimum. No responsible moderator or sysop can allow defamatory
EC>comments about a user's profession. And I can not imagine any
EC>moderator except Quarrella (an early enabler of Chirnside's problems)
EC>who would allow threats of violence.

EC>I guess the lesson is that as long as there are ANY rules at all,
EC>someone can break them so that they can look pseudo-noble to their
EC>friends by getting booted. Sadly, fidonet moves one step closer to
EC>irrelevance.

I don't think it is a reflection on Fido. It is a reflection on people
and the continual decay of our moral fabric. For me the key is the
realization that I am not going to be able to change these folks. So I
lower my expectations and then I am neither disappointed nor surprised
at any behavior they exhibit. There was a time in this country when
folks didn't have to feel that way but since their era of enlightenment,
that has since passed.
