Hello Ardith:

PS (Pre-Script?): I suspect I'm starting to cover ground I've presented
before, but the hurtin' is foggin' the noggin', so I'm just going to have
to say it again. <-;

AH> You'd indicated that you don't suffer fools
AH> gladly when you're in pain
AH> ... and I see that you communicate in a direct manner, which I
AH> personally prefer to the "nice" way some folks have of
avoiding the
AH> real issues! What I meant was that you're making
AH> officialdom aware of what your needs are, and by doing so
AH> you are also helping others. Dallas & do the same. We

After I fell through the cracks, I wanted to take up as much space as I
could whilst there, so no one else would fit.

Effective? Not always. Annoying? I'm sure, but I'd had plenty of
annoyances, and far be it for the perpetrators not to realize how their
policies or practices have affected me. It's a shame that the two doctors
who were most to blame for my inappropriate care are long gone, and will
likely never hear my outrage. (I think I mentioned I'd like to verbally rip
a strip off them, and start down the other side?)

Right now, as a resident of Alberta, I find compassionate support direly
lacking. As I told one fellow at the crisis centre, "If you're a sick
kitty up a tree in this provence, you gonna *die* a sick kitty up a
tree." (He was from Ontario, but I told him I wouldn't hold that
against him. ;-)

I've lost count of how many times I've called city hall for assistance in
my twelve-year neglected yard work, and they are about to get another. I
know the person I talk to is not to blame for the lack of services for
people in my situation, but it's not going to prevent me from trying to
instill some good hearted humour into the quagmire.

I just received a flyer in the mailbox, stating that my community has
instigated a volunteer day to help cleanup the neighborhood. Maybe that is
an indirect response to my umpteen requests to date. Now, if I
can only get them to truck out a couple of loads from my address; I'll take
the before and after photographs.

AH> noticed, for example, that a certain traffic light allowed
AH> only seven seconds to cross a six-lane street. It wasn't
AH> enough time... either for Nora or for the numerous others
AH> in the area who use mobility aids and/or walk with some
AH> difficulty... to cross safely. When the problem was
AH> brought to the attention of the right department, they
AH> fixed it. In a lot of cases people may not see what is
AH> amiss because it has no effect on them
AH> ... but they're not unwilling to help if you can explain it
AH> clearly & concisely. Who will rattle cages if *we* don't?

You the gal! <-|{

And rightly, the traffic department only runs their mathematical analysis
on their streets, and one fast walk signal here or there doesn't likely
cross their desks. The average Joe never notices, unless they have personal
experience with a challenged person. Even if they have experience, chances
are the person hasn't realized the complaints, or the issuing party gets
tired of explaining it so many times...

AH> Those who are mentally handicapped, or the guy who speaks
AH> haltingly with "sip-and-puff" apparatus, or the little old
AH> ladies who wouldn't say boo to a goose?? Somehow I think
 AH> it's highly unlikely.... :-)

It's nice that we have more handicapped people in a position of power to
raise complaints and issues the normal (Not meant as a compliment.)
politician wouldn't recognize. Then there's people like you three and
myself, for the cities that still can't buy a clue. <-;

AH> Yup. I hit the nail on the head so squarely at
AH> times that other folks apparently feel I'm attacking them,
AH> but I imagine you can relate.... :-))

Well, I try not to put the screws on too tight. Mind you, I'd been pretty
ferocious with one doctor once. (Same long story. :-)

AH> It may be necessary to call in reinforcements at
AH> times when one is ill or in pain. Nora often says to me "I
AH> tell them, but they won't listen." Dallas & I are more
AH> difficult to ignore. Even if we all work together, though,
AH> we find some people don't get the picture or lack the power
 AH> to help much... (sigh).

...And some people just rub each other in the wrong way. One fellow my
father was sharing room with, once told an RN that she wasn't a nurse, she
was an opportunist. I've never gone that far, but I had been tempted a few
times. That's what made it so funny when I first heard him deal with the
ditz. I was torn between hiding in the locker, or laughing *real* hard in
her face.

JB> ADAC was not equipped to feed me even an A.S.A.
 JB> for pain control

AH> Perhaps as a defence against individuals who might say
AH> anything to get drugs from them? I'm reminded of a man whose young

I offered to bring my own if that would ease their paperwork. NADA! Today,
they have something in place to deal with my type.

AH> son stumbled en route to his appointment at the oncology
AH> clinic. The boy hit his head on a curb & the father
AH> thought he might need stitches... so they went to the
AH> emergency ward first. The father was quite distressed by
AH> somebody's overconscientious efforts to make sure he wasn't
AH> abusing the kid, as if he didn't have enough problems
 AH> already.... :-/

Sure, but the omission would be the bigger sin, IMO. A cousin of mine was
an ER RN for years, and quickly became the goto girl on the ward! I know
for a fact, that I couldn't do the job she did.

AH> We could use a secretary & a maid too... [chuckle].
JB> ...Oh ya, and a full time 'strong-back'!

AH> Come to think of it, we could use one of them as well....
 AH> ;-)

I'll let you know how the situation works out here, and I'll send them over
if they're any good. <-; You'll just have to promise to return 'em!
