PH> Well guys, after much reading, lurking, skulking around pet supply
PH> stores, and suchlike, I have decided that for the immediate future
PH> I will not get a parrot.
PH> I still want to get a parrot, but it will be down the road. I'll still
PH> be lurking here, since I want to learn as much as possible anyhow, and
PH> I am sure I'll pop up with some questions from time-to-time.
SH> I'm sorry to hear this... but better you choose "no" for
SH> now then to take on a responsibility you're not ready for.
SH> Getting a parrot is a lot like having a child... you figure
SH> it's expensive, a life-long commitment (altho hopefully your
SH> kid moves out someday!), a big change in your life. You should
SH> be commended for your wisdom and consideration... i wish all
SH> potential pet owners were like you. Hope to see you around
SH> here... you have a lot to offer to birds and their owners alike!
I came to the decision reluctantly. It's the money factor, more than
anything else. It's ironic that you mention children...one of the reasons
why I don't have the spare cash is that my daughter got married on
April 20th and I had all those wedding expenses to pay. It will take
my finances time to recover before I spring for a bird. It looks like
it will be about a year from now before I am ready financially. From
all that I have seen in Bird Talk, and from sneaking around pet stores
and such, it looks like I'd be shelling out about 2 grand initially for
bird, cage, vet checkup, toys, and etc. As you say, they're expensive.
But I think it will be worth the money...
... This is not a tagline...
