First of all, I hope your drive is 7200 rpm or faster, and 8.5 ms (or
less) avg. seek time. If not, you'll get errors, pops, and system stops
when multitracking. You may not notice it when the drive is almost
empty, but later, it will show.

A Macintosh.

Pro studios generally use Digidesign ProTools systems with Macintosh
computers. In fact, every studio I've been in lately has at least 3 Macs
- one for multitracking, one for mixdown, and one (or more) for
business. There are certainly very few, if any, pro studios in Los
Angeles using Windows hard-disk recording systems.

There obviously must be a reason for this.

Keyboard magazine recently surveyed Windows digital audio systems, and
clearly stated they are inferior to Mac systems. With Macs so cheap now,
there's no legitimate reason to try to shove the Windows platform into
every area of your life. If you are serious about recording, pick up a
Mac or Mac clone (180 to 200 mHz with three PCI slots now available for
$895 to $1295) plug in your great-sounding Digidesign audio cards, and
you're off. And keep your Windows machine for business, but really, save
yourself the headaches of Windows digital audio.
