It's true. Styrofoam is an excellent insulator.

Yes. Vents are necessary to carry your body heat away; the
styrofoam in the shell insulates your head from solar heating.
The coolest helmet I've ever owned is a Vetta Testarosa; no
longer produced, unfortuantely. I'm rather reluctant to shop for
a new helmet for fear of it being a disappointment after this one.
