In reference to messages, 63,64&65, for those of you who care,
Amendments 5 & 6 requiring polluters in Florida to pay for their
environmental destruction passed with colors. Because of, literally,
half truths and very expensive propaganda campaigning at the 11th hour
on the part of the Florida sugar industry, they managed to dupe most of
the Florida voters into believinge the penny-a-pound tax on raw sugar
would either be on the citizens, the cost of sugar would rise, they
would fire alot of worker, small farms would go bankrupt, and similar
falsehoods that Amendment #4 failed by a slim margin. And they managed
to dupe the voters into passing an amendment (#1) requiring 2/3 majority
of the vote approve any future tax amendments. (This will probably cause
Florida alot of revenue problems in all areas)
However, the sugar industry ended up getting what was coming to them.
Now, instead of their having to pay a penny-a-pound over the next 25
years, because 5 & 6 passed, our state attorney, Bob Butterworth is
requiring them to pay $900,000,000 NOW!
How's that for poetic justice?
Incidently, #6 has to do with setting up a state agency to administer
the funds and oversee the cleanup.
"Maybe there is a god afterall!"
