I can imagine this as how they 'sold' the idea of the
guillotine when it was first invented. ;-) 

While we are on the subject ... 

I know many people put one hand down next to a screw when they
are trying to get it started (especially in wood). I did that
and the screwdriver slipped. Made a very odd sound as it
pierced the skin between my thumb and my hand and left an "X"
where it had gone completely through and out the other side
(Phillips). Hurts when you push a somewhat blunt object through
your hand. 

I don't do that anymore. ;-)
