It floors me that things swing to one extreme or the other. I'm sure
access to technology and simulations as a PART of the design process
would be helpful and good exposure for the students, to then be
continued and completed as a hands-on physical project. But to
completely drop the physical construction portion of the course seems
completely idiotic to me!
I recall a number of Aussie participants from the past (we used to get
quite a number of prospective "design" teachers from Oz asking general
student teaching theory questions here) complaining about the exact same
thing.
