seems faster, i did do some benchmarks:-

qbench

seq read | seq write | rnd read | rnd write | average

----------------------+-----------+-----------+-----------+----------

disk 1 1542 2.0 2772 | 11.0 4214 | 20.2 2852 | 20.0 5619 | 10.7 3323

       2842 2.3 4219 | 19.2 5507 | 19.3 3923 | 19.5 5730 | 10.6 4595

----------------------+-----------+-----------+-----------+----------

disk 2 1542 2.1 3643 | 11.1 3609 | 18.9 2490 | 19.7 3777 | 10.4 3328

       2842 0.8 3815 | 11.0 3598 | 17.5 3370 | 18.2 3819 | 9.4 3657

all the above access time / xfer rate

4_speed (xfer rate)

            1542 2842

disk 1 2566 4106

disk 2 1471 2088

asbench

              | tur | nms | ss | rs | sr | rr |

-------+------+-----+-----+-----+------+------+------+

disk 1 | 1542 | 2.6 | 3.1 | 3.5 | 5.1 | 3276 | 1868 |

       | 2842 | 1.5 | 3.5 | 3.1 | 4.8 | 4684 | 2355 |

-------+------+-----+-----+-----+------+------+------+

disk 2 | 1542 | 1.6 | 2.3 | 2.5 | 10.0 | 3238 | 1433 |

       | 2842 | 0.3 | 0.8 | 1.1 | 8.5 | 4160 | 1753 |

tur ... test unit ready

nms ... no motion seek

ss .... sequential seek

rs .... random seek

sr .... sequential read

rr .... random read

so there it is - shows how consistent the different benchmarks are. each

test was repeated and was consisten with it's self.

unfortunately i didn't do my own test, loading a 34 meg tiff into

photoshop, but it seems noticably faster.

btw, if you want a hires file, you can have this. it is a picture of a

doll scanned off the original object at 400 dpi and enhanced to 800 dpi.

as there was no photography involved, it is the best that can be got

from a normal desktop scanner.

                        Keith

... All I want is a warm bed, a kind word, and a 500Mhz CPU.
