it could, i suppose, be a virus payload... but it could be many other
things aswell, and as such chances are that it is not a virus...
if you are worried that it might be a virus then the best way to
determine that for sure is to boot from a known clean bootable floppy
disk with good anti-virus software on it and us that anti-virus software
to identify which things have been infected and by what...
i suspect it has more to do with a configuration change or new software
running on the system however... perhaps you've misconfigured a utility
that was designed to get rid of really old messages...
... when the moon hits your eye .. hit it back, harder...
