In the US, both Hayes and AT&T already support 33k6bps, and the V.34
extensions which are being used by USR will be the ones adopted by the ITU
as the official ratified standard early next year. To upgrade a Rockwell
modem will require a whole new datapump, not just an EPROM upgrade. Any
guesses as to how much Netcomm are likely to charge for that? I already
have a fair idea... :)

I agree that it's next to useless these days, but the big advantage of HST
is that you can expect full-speed connects on lines which are too poor to
support even a successful V.32 connect. Lots of urban myths (with more
than a bit of truth in them, I suspect) about HST being the only modem
protocol which could be used during the Gulf War.

Really? Tha surprises me.

Seems like you need a SOH transplant too, Dave. :)

I believe you! I transferred over 10Mb of files to a fellow in Melbourne
(at his expense, of course) just recently, and his M34F connected at 28800
bps, although the cps rates weren't great - around 2750 cps overall.

db> Ner. :-)

Is that an obscure acronym of some sort? :)
