To make the real thing you need a special machine called an Espresso
Maker. It forces a small amount of nearly boiling water under
pressure through finely ground coffee. It produces a foamy,
concentrated, very strong flavoured, high caffeine drink which is
served in small amounts.

The drink contains very fine suspended solids as well as dissolved
matter. In this regard it is rather like Turkish coffee where
extremely fine coffee is brewed right in boiling water and then
served without filtering it.
