CHRIS OGNIBEN was seen kissing Large Marge and telling us:

CO> the game.
That's not really true. Players of the past played the game because for many
of them, it was the only way that they could make a living without having to
resort to staying on the farm or working in the mines. It has always been
conducted as a business and the only way that "loyalty" was instilled in the
player was the fact that he was at the mercy of the owner and couldn't jump
to another team UNLESS a new league started. When that happened, players
either jumped as fast as they could or the owners upped their salaries to
keep them "loyal" to the team. When the league folded, salaries were rolled
back to reflect the lack of competition for the players' talents.
