  The only general recommendation that can be given is to buy a decent
  book such as _Real_World_Programming_for_OS/2_ (see the OS2PROG booklist
  for details).

  The other general recommendation, which is to "buy the DevCon, young
  man" (since the DevCon CD-ROMs contain just about all of the toolkits
  and documentation that most people will ever need), is not *quite* as
  mandatory, since many people can initially get by with the API
  documentation supplied with their compiler (except for those that use
  EMX C++), and leave buying the DevCon until they have got their feet
  wet.
