                      Riding Rock Inn
                San Salvador Island, Bahamas

The food was good. Although the menu is limited, each
lunch and dinner offered a white and red meat to satisfy
most people. The kitchen does a really good job with the
grouper and conch--the Cracked Conch is very tasty.
Breakfast offered cereal, eggs, or pancakes, I had an
omelette with cheese, mushrooms, and peppers most mornings
with bacon. I would recommend skipping the roast duck, this
was the only meal the entire group decided was a bust.
Bar prices: Beer $3.00 Mixed drinks $2.75 (Jack Daniels
and coke) to $3.95-some kind of killer drink with about 6 or
7 different liquors and rums---I just looked--I did not try
it!
When I went to Riding Rock Inn San Salvador, Bahamas with
our local dive club, the Mountaineer Dive Club of
Charleston, WV. We were able to arrange the trip ourselves
and split the commission and free trips (one free for each
12 paid) among ourselves.
The Costs for a week package at Riding Rock Inn are:
Deluxe Room Dive Package $954.00
Deluxe Room Non-Diver Package $694.00
Standard Dive Package $869.00 $869.00
Standard Room Non-Diver Package $609.00
R/T Air-Ft. Lauderdale/San Sal $250.00
R/T Air-Charleston,WV-San Salvador $422.95
Bahamas Air flies into San Salvador everyday except Tuesday.
The only problem with the Bahamas Air schedule is that it is
different everyday. I was going to stay a week, but due to
the Bahamas Air schedule, I arrived on a Friday and stayed
until the next Saturday, eight days.
I flew from Charleston WV to Atlanta, then Atlanta to
Nassau, Nassau to San Salvador. Returning was the reverse.
When I previously visited RRI I overnighted in Ft.
Lauderdale and caught he RRI charter fight over. The
charter flight only files on Saturday and leaves at 10:00
AM, which neccesitates the overnight. The cost of the
charter flight is $255.00. Making the connection with
Bahamas Air from Nassau is a lot cheaper and does not cause
you to overnight when enroute.
Riding Rock Inn only accepts groups from Saturday to
Saturday.
Meals are included in the price of this package. Iced tea
and Kool-Aid was provided with lunch and supper. Breakfast
included orange juice and milk.
Free Rum Punch was provided on two evenings from
6:00-7:00Pm with Conch Fritters free at manager's parties.
I really enjoyed my week at Riding Rock Inn and heartily
recommend it to anyone who likes good diving, short boat
rides to divesites and good food. This was my third visit
to Riding Rock Inn and will definitely not be my last.
There is no shopping on the island and very little to do,
which is what I want on a dive trip-great diving and a
restful resort.
One important note: The local people on the island are some
of the friendliest people I have ever met. I walked to
town, about 1 mile away, 3 times and was offered rides each
time.
