It seems that when reading, Aftershock recognizes the message's CHRS kludge and does the corresponding translation to display it properly, at least for CP866, CP437 and LATIN-1 (unfortunately not for UTF-8).
When replying or forwarding, it makes no conversion on the quoted/forwarded text.
