I asked for some more info about the line dropouts, and the
USR's even dropped out when connected to another USR, so it's
not just a retrain problem. And apparently the Netcomm M34F
modems will initiate a retrain, and if it the other end fails
to respond, it just ignores it. As opposed to the USR where
if there is a failure to respond, it drops carrier. I believe
there is a switch on the USR to stop it asking for retrains
altogether, but what the Netcomm does is ask for retrains, but
ignores a failure to respond.
Given that I'm not going to get the sort of support that I need
from anyone, we have to ask the question - "is the Courier
worth $180 more than the Netcomm". Given that the answers I am
getting make it look like the Netcomm is either worse than,
equal to, or better than the Courier, on average there is no
solid evidence to suggest the difference is worth $180.
However, Netcomms won't be available for 6-8 weeks. BFN. Paul.
