Hello, and hello.

Well... I guess it is some of both. I'm not so bombastic all the time. <-;
AH> another... it's not so easy to answer! I saw your
AH> conversation with Wayne in another echo, however, and it
AH> gave me a few ideas as to which topics you might be
AH> particularly interested in. Here's a summary of a couple
AH> of things which came to mind...

I too have to chuckle when asked if I've spent time in a hospital. Besides the
time as an infant, [I was frightened by (The dream of... ?) a dog.] I had more
than a few episodes of road rash while exiting my bicycle ungracefully. One of
those disagreements with gravity must have induced a malignant tumour called a
liposarcoma. From the operation that followed up the removal of it, my pain is
constant, and only being managed by non-narcotic medications at this time.

Twelve years later, 'umpteen' half done home-improvement projects laying about,
I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs. I don't recall there being any backlog of
messages here in this echo, hence my query to bring me up to speed. I too
wonder about 'lurkers', but as I figure, they are all trying to fix their
Windows machines, and there's enough there to keep them awake all night.

I too have a musical background. I was trained in drums and percussion a bit,
and did exhibit some skill in my days. As the neuroma keeps me from sitting on
anything but my tail-bone, I have been trying to pick up some of the Latin
percussion toys as of late.

Well, I guess that's full disclosure. Now... What else is going on?

Oh... Just a warning, I'm sure you've discovered about me, I can be a bit of a
brat, but I've been told I can be a lot of fun regardless.
AH> 1) About twenty years ago I had a benign tumour in one of my
AH> salivary glands. As I understand the situation the facial nerve
AH> runs through this gland, meaning the surgeon had to dissect the
AH> gland from the nerve. As a result the nerve was damaged &
AH> the lower half of my face was paralyzed on one side... not
AH> good news, to put it mildly, for somebody who enjoys
AH> playing the clarinet! But I used the clarinet as a tool to
AH> aid my recovery, and later in the same year I was able to
AH> play as a substitute in a brief concert. While my mouth is
AH> still a bit crooked I don't mind very much because the rest
AH> of my face isn't symmetrical either. I see from this &
AH> other incidents that the body is able to repair itself in a
AH> lot of ways which might not be immediately apparent. I
AH> don't know if the situation you've described is likely to
AH> improve, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility.

AH> 2) Dallas & I have a daughter, Nora, of whom you will
AH> certainly have heard if you've been reading previous messages
AH> here. I don't say much about her medical history unless it's
AH> relevant to what others really need to know because I don't
AH> want to embarrass her. Dallas & I laughed hysterically just
AH> the other day when a new social worker asked us whether or not
AH> she had ever been in hospital. For various reasons Nora
AH> can't walk very well. But I see she has the same attitude
AH> toward her disabilities which enabled both my father & his
AH> sister to exceed the usual expectations for people in such
 AH> circumstances, and I'm delighted.... :-)
