-=> While eating Chocolate, Desiree had this to say: <=-
RF> Does Corey have ODD too? I can't remember if you said. All I know
 DL> YES!!!!!
 RF>
RF> I thought I saw this, but wasn't sure. Jeremy is getting really
RF> mouthy lately again. But we are find things to keep him busy and more
RF> controlled. We are going to redo our kitchen. I put in a program to
RF> design it and got frustrated with it. Jeremy took it over and figure
RF> out the program and started measuring my kitchen up. I finally had to
RF> threaten him to come to bed.
RF> My other son is just ADD/LD and alot easier to handle. This ODD is
 RF> so hard.
That is an understatement!!! Some days... man oh man...
DL> He does have one sign when his attitude has (temporarily) improved...
DL> when I ask him to do something, he says "yes, mommy". This is the only
DL> time he will say this.
RF> I must be fortunate then. Jeremy does things for me and gets really
OHHHHH! You shouldn't have said that! Don't you remember... as soon
as you say you are lucky the child turns around and does exactly what you
said he didn't! Cory does this anyway.
DL> Aren't parental reserves great!!! David seems to think he can 'take'
DL> his father... I hope he never finds out. David will be in for a rude
DL> awakening. Even more than the one he's about to get. ;)
 RF>
RF> Yeppers. although I am physically weaker than years ago. But my
RF> husband is a modernization contractor and he is out there doing
 RF> physical labor every day.
Well, Cory knows I can still pick his butt up and plant it in his room...
even with all of his squirming and kicking. Like today... he wasn't a
happy camper.
DL> This has been a tough lesson for Cory and one he still hasn't learned.
DL> He pushes that threshold often.
 RF>
RF> Jeremy still does to, except for physical abuse on me. He won't
RF> touch me in that regard. First time in a long time Jeremy got to me
RF> really bad. Jeremy was getting disciplined and he decided it was time
RF> to play hide and seek. I got so frustrated I threw a metal pole
RF> against the wall. He came out of hiding immediately. So I guess he
RF> found out he pushed passed the limit. Now I have a dent to repair.
David also learned the hard way by hitting me with the screen door when I
was walking away from him after a fight. Now all of his friends are scared
of me too. It's (only) kinda amusing... but they don't realized just how
far I was pushed either.
RF> But all in all, throwing the pole felt really good. I wanted to throw
RF> it threw the glass, but reasonable as I am, I managed to control
RF> myself enough to just hit the wall. Jeremy won't do that again for a
Sometimes I fantasize about the sound of a plate glass window breaking...
the sound would be most satisfying... paying the replacement costs wouldn't.
So instead I play the stereo loud with soothing music.
RF> aggravate each other. If not with words, but also poking and standing
RF> in each other's way and stuff. OBTW, he use to punch other kids, but
 RF> doesn't any more.
Yeah, Cory hits his sister too and she fights back with avengeance! He hasn't
*yet* hit another child.
DL> This is a typical morning around here.
 RF>
RF> Sounds like the way it use to be around here. I remember waking up
RF> and finding them trying to bake cookies, flour everywhere ans such.
RF> Things are not like that around here anymore. I get up rather early
RF> and Jeremy can't sleep at nite so consequently I am up before everyone
RF> else. The most that happens here is the bread opened and maybe a can
RF> of veggies or something. He will forget to eat when he is involved.
It fluctuates around here with the getting into things... and it's never
predictable. Usually Ron is up first, but he is half deaf (seriously)
so he doesn't hear much unless the noise is on his good side. I have a hard
time dragging myself out of bed... I am naturally nocturnal.
RF> With the way this house is situated right now we still have things on
RF> the kitchen table, like our microwave. So when I cook, eveyone gets a
RF> plate and eats in the living room. My furniture is tore up where
RF> Jeremy and Jonathon took a knife and shredded it. This was a few
Ouch! Cory has shredded a few things too, with his bare hands. And if there
is a loose string on a couch cushion, you can bet either he or his sister
will pull it!
RF> years ago. I am waiting to replace it when I see no more destruction,
We're waiting until they are all out on their own... they can take all the
ruined furniture with them and we will get BRAND NEW stuff! And take
an extended vacation...
RF> ADHD child, Jeremy can not have full structure. To do so frustrates
RF> him to act worse. It has to do with control and he needs to feel
RF> control all the time (even though he doesn't have it emotionally). It
Cory is like this too... but he needs the full structure. If you change
*anything* on him... he loses it.
DL> Sounds like he could be a good candidate for outgrowing most of the
DL> ADHD as he gets older.
 RF>
RF> Actually, I think maybe he is just learning to cope. I was told my
RF> parenting skills are very positive and that Jeremy is learning from
 RF> them.
I try very hard with Cory. Some days are better than others, and some are
worse. Alot of the time it is hit and miss... he is very unpredictable
at times. But I do the best that I can at any given time.
