Don't forget that each user will have different problems with a product;
for example, I've never had trouble mixing memory chip types and speeds in
my machine, whereas a lot of people used to complain that OS/2 would trap
with such a configuration.
It's nice to hear that I'm not the only person picking the M34F, though. :-)

That surprises me - might have been a configuration issue.

*Maybe* - I don't run with the factory default configuration for starters,
and the problem is intermittment and the fault of the Spirit; whenever I
connect to another modem (Banksia, USR, NetComm, Hayes, whatever) it's been
fine.

You'll never get a *perfect* modem or configuration, just a "best
average"; face reality and pick a product - I chose NetComm, Bill and
Bob chose USR. In each case, our modems are fine .. it's just your Spirit
that's crap, that's all. :-)
