Half our stuff here in Canada comes from Europe/metric, half US/US-S, which means 2 sets of tools as it is. And I have a feeling Torx is a patented brand, requiring royalty payments. Which means other screw manufacturers will try to get around that. I've already seen 2 other types of Torx-like tamper-proof screws, one with a hex-type socket instead of a star-shaped one. The variations can be endless. Does that mean we'll have to get a separate set of bits for all of them? I'm too old to re-tool.
