I slept in one of the first tubes - I forget where - some US airport,
sometime ca. 1970.  It was weeks old, and thus couldn't help being clean. 
I think the whole thing was Japanese prefab, and the size showed.  I slept
decently (white noise generator, good ventilation) with my feet hanging
over, just as they do on half the hotel beds in the world.
