Well, I'd not say moot, rather discouraged forever.

I'm now most comfy with none at all for reading,
which means there's some fuzz. We'll see what the
next few months bring.

A lot of places have overlapping systems, but most
elsewhere serve largely disconnected constituencies.
Here the systems are more parallel then usual, in
large part because of the peculiar geo- and
demographics of the area. San Diego city proper is
sort of amoebalike, extending to within 2.3 miles
of where Lilli lives, but the downtown is 25-30
miles away. The county encompasses the city and
20-odd other municipalities plus a million people's
worth of unincorporated. Practically speaking, this
means that with regards to some services (libraries
for example) some areas are multiply served but for
others, owing to bad luck, they are not covered at
all. We, for example, are in an unincorporated area
and have to fend for ourselves for trash and sewer
and road paving but are served with electricity and
water. The mail goes to two places, and there are
two library systems as we've discussed. In common
with other advanced and established communities
worldwide, there's also an Atheneum (private), which
is 37 miles away but has the only worthwhile music
collection in the county.

Does Raleigh or Durham have a city system? That
would make the analogy more exact.

Zoji is a company I haven't heard from too
much lately. For a while, their breadmakers
were said to be the top of the heap.

Worse. It's like that but with lots of
intermarriage.

I wonder if that kind of brand identification
(even loyalty) makes that much sense these days.

Do you have trouble with it clogging when you
don't use it enough? Lilli's does, and the only
adjustment is the temperature for the unit,
which affects everything, so getting the ice
maker not to misbehave means taking the fridge
temperature too high for food safety.

The exact scores don't have to be publicized,
do they? It would strike me that any kind of B
(or A or C, if we were looking at those) would
imply a comparable level of risk. And appearances
might be deceiving, too - a dingy-looking B might
be just as healthful as a sparkly B.

People vary: in fact, a normal 100 is not all
that common, and people who range in the mid-90s
probably predominate. Low 90s, all I know is that
when Lilli's brother got into that range, the
PT people would not risk treating him, which
seemed a little backward (why not institute a
modified less strenuous regimen). In his case,
though, he never got out of the 80s without a
good long huff, which he didn't like to do.

Roasted Florets & Charred Pepper Salad
categories: Singaporean, main, vegan
servings: 2

1 hd cauliflower, florets, about 5 c
1 hd broccoli, florets, about 5 c
1 red pepper, charred and skin removed, cubed 1"
500 g cremini, sliced
1 yellow pepper, charred and skin removed, cubed 1"
extra virgin olive oil
1 pk arugula leaves, about 10 c unpacked
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt

Toss cauliflower and broccoli in 2 Tb EVOO, salting
as you go; set them out on a baking tray and roast
at 220C/425F for 35 to 40 min, increasing the oven
temp to 230C/450F for the last 5 min.

Fry cremini in preheated pan with minced garlic and
2 Tb EVOO on medium-high heat until water released
from mushrooms is cooked off, about 15 min.

Set out arugula at the bottom, and top with roasted
broccoli and cauliflower, alternating with fried
mushrooms and blistered peppers, and drizzle EVOO
as liberally as you'd like.
