The orignal was done in CP866 and the missing letter 'Н' was valued at 0x8d. 
In this case 7-bit ascii couldn't demonstrate the flaw.  Also the utf-8 value
for the letter 'Н' - 0x41d or '0xd0 0x9d' in 8-bit speak - is not affected by
the flaw given the trailing byte is not 0x8d.
