Ah, so it's not only me who gets these error msgs about no umb's available!

No. There's no error msgs when I do that. I only get the error msgs when I 
open a 4dos window from win95.
As I said I think the problem is that win95 isn't allowing umb's to be used 
when opening a 4dos window. I'm not sure why shelling out again from a prog 
doesn't give the error though.
