Paul, at 17:27 on May 15 1996, you wrote to Bob Lawrence... PE> You bought a radar detector for what purpose? To detect (and avoid) police radar traps, of course! PE> Is it actually illegal to own one, Yes, in all states except WA. PE> or is it just illegal to put one in your car? Extremely. Qld has a $400 fine if you're caught, whilst NSW went way over the top with a $750 fine if caught, and another $750 fine if you don't voluntarily surrender it when detected by the "radar-detector detectors" used in many police cars. I was actually pulled over twice in NSW for using my Whistler 2000, but because the coppers couldn't find it (and I denied that I had one) they let me go. Had I owned up, it would have cost me $750 plus loss of the detector, but if they'd found it, the fine would have been $1500 instead. Needless to say, after that, I pissed it off quick smart. :) Regards, Bill --- Msgedsq/2 3.20* Origin: Logan City, SEQ +61 7 3200 8606 MO (3:640/305.9) SEEN-BY: 640/305 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
