Of course, each section would have it's own 1/8 wave adjustable phasing
stub.
JE> For that matter, has anyone ever thought of lining up several J-poles

That is an interesting idea! If you mount them horizontally, (along a
horizonatal mast), the problem of keeping them stable would, I would
think, be almost insurmountable for anything below 220 MHz, unless you
had them in pairs: One ponting "east" opposite one pointing "west," so
they are balanced, then feed them 180 degrees out of phase.
Mounting them vertically on a horizontal plane would prove interesting,
as you could space and phase them to get just about any pattern you
wanted. (The same way that AM broadcast towers are made directional, but
on a much smaller scale). With a 9-tower array, there is an AM station
near Minneapolis which pumps virtually all of it's 50,000 watts straight
to Greenland! It has a pattern like a glove, with the "main bang" being
the wearer's arm and five small sidelobes: there are areas only a few
miles South of the antenna farm that you cannot hear the station at all,
even with a good car radio! I think it would be VERY interesting to play
with such an array of 6 dB (or more) J-poles on 2M! By shifting the
relative phases, you could change the direction of the main lobe!
