I could do the grody, complex-calculations-plus-database stuff I do in Java
if somebody wanted it to run on Unix (or whatever), JDBC is pretty
straightforward (although not entirely bugfree).   But I wouldn't want
to have to do GUI's with it -- Swing is, um, well, ...

At my current job everything I write is supposed to run on Windows,
although I have to interface to all kinds of things.
