subject: SOT EOT

AdB> The AREA: line problem can be avoided by always inserting a kludge at the
AdB> top, MSGID, PID, or even SOT.

the AREA: line is spec'd as the FIRST line of a packed message after the
packed message's header. this is the ONLY way to seperate echomail and
netmail. by having this control line as the first thing after the header, a
processor can much faster switch to processing one or the other as the case
may be...

AdB> And if editors instead of adding SOT/EOT make sure the message has both an
AdB> origin and tearline you can find the end of the usertext unambiguously.

the TEARLINE is =NOT= a _required_ part of the message. only interpretation
instead of literal reading would cause one to think so...
