The justification for not wearing a helmet is not a simple one and perhaps
not even well thought out. Cyclist have gone for hundreds of years without
one and it has only now become more of an issue. Is it because there are more
accidents now, people are less careful, cars are also on the street, helmet
manufactures now exist. Could it be a combination of all these factors and
more. Why do many of the pros not wear helmets? Is the helmet the solution to
cyclist's problems? Should we stop there and have knee, shoulder, elbow,
shin, etc pads as well? This may sound silly, but where should it end? I'm
not advocating that people should not be wear helmets. I do believe there is
a time and place for it, but I don't believe all the time.
