RS> He's fucked that up completely. They will ban pump action shotguns as
RS> well, and 'military style' rifles, which includes stuff like 303s too.

BG> Yeah, so I heard last night. I'm speechless.

BL> They're banning pump-action shotguns (which is what I meant by non-auto
BL> shotguns), but not repeating rifles like a 303 or sporting rifles.

Fraid so Bob. The 'military style' applys to even non auto and non semi auto.

You have got it right on centre fire and rimfire sporting rifles tho.

BL> Where did you hear that?

The most obvious place is little Johnnys press release
after the police ministers meeting had concluded.

Corse we dont actually have the states actual legislation
yet, and there could well be some considerable backsliding
on 'military style' and semi auto 22s.

RS> It doesnt affect those at all. Its not too clear what
RS> happens about the military rifle stuff tho. Some even
RS> includes the modern military stuff like Steyrs too.

BG> Those are self-loading too, and are therefore illegal now as well.

BL> This ban only applies to civilians, not the Army! ROFL!

True, but you dont appear to have noticed that there is an
entire class of competition shooting using the latest military
weapons, done by other than military personnel. Including Steyrs.
There was actually a competitive shoot on the weekend of the
police ministers meeting in Sydney which involved Steyrs.

This is essentially a hangover from the militia/CMF
days, encouraging the use of the latest military weapons
in competitive shooting. For rather obvious reasons.

BL> I don't know any military rifles that aren't t self-loading. Do you?

Fraid so Bob, particularly for snipers.

BL> The ban does not include 303s and old Mausers,
BL> or that lovely drop-block Cadet rifle of 1896....

Fraid it does Bob. Tho its not been spelt out just what the
story is on the 'collectors', thats just been waffled on.

BL> or the smooth-bore Brown Bess of 1760.

Well, antiques are different.
