BG> I didn't hear anything about b/a military rifles, but was BG> actually commenting on the ridiculous banning of pump shotguns. BG> They've gone too far this time. I think I agree with them, although I've never used a pump shotgun. The idea is to ban all weapons that a non-skilled loony cna use to do great damage to people in an urban situation. The pump shotgun fits that profile, doesn't it? Its only good point is that it is limited to 5 shots (8 with special magazines), and slow to load. RS> Some even includes the modern military stuff like Steyrs too. BG> Those are self-loading too, and are therefore illegal now as BG> well. BL> This ban only applies to civilians, not the Army! ROFL! BG> By the same token, army people don't bring their guns home with BG> them. The shooters' associations are taking the wrong approach by supporting the loonies. If they were willing to concede the same sort of control as the Army (leave the guns locked up at the gun club), I think most people would be satisfied, but it's gone too far for that now. The loonies are loose, and some of them are going to end up in gaol. They honestly don't iunderstand that you can't threaten the Prime Minister and the Law, live on prime TV. BG> In fact, that $500m would be put to much better use hunting BG> down and disarming violent crims, not persecuting honest BG> citizens. Did you see your "honest citizens" in the Queensland "Gun Owners Association" last night? The ones who were willing to lead the revolution against the communist homosexual plot to disarm us? Some of those are going to do time, Bill. BG> Christ almighty, if the wankers in Canberra pulled their BG> fingers out and did that instead, I'd actually welcome a 0.2% BG> increase in the medicare levy, even if it was permanent. It'd BG> be cheap insurance at twice the price. It *already* costs Australia $5 billion a year to control crime, and that's $1,000 a year for each family. Another $500M is not going to have any impact. This has gone miles past the idea of SLRs now, and the gun loonies are the ones driving it. We, the People, see it as a chance to disarm these loonies permanently, and return Australia to where it was 30 years ago when a gun-culture was unthinkable and the only ones with guns were genuine sharpshooters. It makes me *angry* when these fat gun-nut pricks talk about an armed populace and a Militia. We have a Militia in Australia that actually held the Japanese on the Kokoda Trail... a *real* Militia, not a pack of immature arseholes running around playing kids' games with dangerous weapons. As a cure for their psychosis, I'd like to see some of these crazies face *real* Japanese soldiers in a jungle.
