Yowser & greets Peter!,
PD> [TrapDoor Echo]
RV>> The 640 net has massive file feeds as well as echomail. When you
RV>> consider that people like me automatically receive 80-90% of all
RV>> files uploaded to Aminet via ADS (within days of release), you
RV>> can imagine what all the Ibm style file feeds drag in daily.
PD> Yes, big volume stuff, fair enough.
I really think they have gone a little too far ;-)
When you consider Barry (Paradise sysop) had 4x1gig drives earlier this
year and was worried he was running out of space, well now he has 4x2.5gig
HD's and is now worried he is running out of space.......
He likes to just throw stuff at problems on the machine as well, was over
there the other night and he is looking for some more ram to throw at the
beast - the thing has 40meg ram as it is!
PD> Anyway, I THINK I've solved the problem in another way. Net 640 can
PD> maintain its current link to TRAPDOOR via Zone 1 and not change
PD> anything.
PD> In the meantime I am again pulling in TRAPDOOR from Zone 2 (The Mad
PD> House itself now), and will arrange for the echo to travel up the N711
PD> backbone link to Dave Hatch's system, and thus the rest of the country.
PD> The problem is there are now going to be TWO gates for TRAPDOOR, and a
PD> message from you to me in TRAPDOOR would have to go over to zone 1,
PD> then to zone 2 and finally back here. And if the N640 and N711 links
PD> should ever be accidentally mixed, we're into dupe city.
PD> However, the crossover linking has not occured in the past and there
PD> WERE two gates even then.
Wouldn't it be easier to pull TRAPDOOR via Arthur's feed? Or is Arthur
under some sort of non-pass on agreement?
If you can stop the dupe-loops via an overseas feed, I don't see why you
wouldn't be able to do similar if you got it from Arthur (if possible).
I suppose you've already looked into getting the echo yourself either from
Soft-tech or Paradise, std calls attract no charge to the feed. Or is this
the problem? They won't allow you to pass on specific N640 brought in
echo's?
RV>> Anyway, I suppose none of this has helped you - it's just a mere
RV>> users viewpoint :)
PD> No, you use the network as much as anyone.
Yeah, I saw, No.2 in the posting stats ;-) (Well this echo)
PD> Want to tell me exactly how N640's TRAPDOOR feed is currently flowing?
Err.. umm.. ahhh.. how should I say this... err... well you see, I don't
get the TRAPDOOR echo and know little about it ;-)
Btw Peter, if you have any questions about the feed etc from Alwyn at
Soft-tech that you want to ask in a roundabout way, you can ask me and I'll
ask Barry in person and try and get an idea for you.
Just in case some things have a grey area and you'd like to know more about.
Cheers, __
