subject: Virtual Pascal for OS/2 is shipping

Calling All OS/2 Developers! London, 2 April 1996

fPrint UK Ltd is pleased to announce that Virtual Pascal for OS/2 is
now shipping. VP/2 is a fully Borland Pascal and Borland Delphi
compatible 32-bit Pascal compiler for OS/2, implementing the Borland
Pascal language as well as the Object Pascal extensions from Borland
  Delphi.

Using the Early Experience Program version of VP/2, hundreds of Dos
and Windows applications have already been ported to 32-bit OS/2. One
of the EEP participants mailed us right after he received the
software: "Incidentally, I ported over all my standard libraries last
night with only eight modifications needing to be made. That's nearly
six megs of code - pretty impressive, I'd say!". Another EEP user
sent "I have just made my 32 bit TurboVision for OS/2 using your
patches, after which I have recompiled some of my dos-programs. They
work as expected, and run faster than before."

Since the EEP, VP/2 has become even better! Read on...

Virtual Pascal for OS/2 features

    > Full context-sensitive online help system in the IDE.

  + Superior Toolkit Support

    > Full Run-Time Library source code included for most units; pure

interface files are included for Classes, Consts, Math, System,
      SysUtils and TypInfo.

    > Compatible with Borland Turbo Vision applications; source code upgrade

included. If original TV source is not available, binary support and
      interface files can be installed.

    > Includes a PM library similar to Borland OWL; source code upgrade

      patch is included.

    > Compatibility upgrades for Turbo Power libraries, including Object

Professional, B-Tree Filer and ASync Professional. Included with
      complete source code upgrades.

    > Extensive high-quality maths library MATHPAK87 Lite, with functions

to handle Complex numbers, matrices, FFT, regression, etc.

    > VP/2 compatible version of TechnoJock's Turbo Toolkit included with

full source code on the CD.

  + Heaps of Examples

    > More than 100 examples included as executables with source code.
    > All examples from "The Art of OS/2 Warp Programming" have been

converted from C to Pascal and are included with source code.

    > The examples cover PM programming, text-mode programming, full-screen

graphics examples and use of the VP/2 compatible toolkits.

  + Instant support

    > CompuServe: GO FPRINT. Section 6 of the OS2BVEN forum is dedicated

More to come...
Development of VP/2 continues at a breathtaking rate. In the next few
months, even more features will be added to the list and be made
  available through online services.

In addition, we are working on converting the visual parts of the
Delphi Visual Component Library to Virtual Pascal for OS/2.
Registered customers of VP/2 will be able to purchase this for a
  favourable upgrade price.

TurboPower Software supports Virtual Pascal for OS/2
The VP/2 box includes a voucher that gives all customers a 20%
Discount off all VP/2 compatible toolkits from TurboPower Software
Co.! The discounts are valid for the extensive Object Professional,
ASync Professional and B-Tree Filer libraries.

Porting real-life applications
Porting the TurboPower toolkits to VP/2 is a good example of the steps
required to port real-life Dos code to VP/2.
Object Professional alone includes more than 100,000 lines (4MB) of
Pascal and assembler source code; ASync Professional is just as big,
and the B-Tree Filer database includes about 1.7MB of source code.

The process of making the functionality included in those 10MB of
libraries compatible with VP/2 - while retaining compatibility with
Dos and Windows - took less than three working weeks from start to
  finish!

VP/2 Demonstration Licence
A fully functional demonstration version of VP/2 v1.0 will shortly be
made available through online services. The demo version includes the
PM version of the VP/2 IDE, the compiler and a few examples. A static
version of the Run-Time Library as well as online help are not
  included.

The Run-Time Library along with plus support for Turbo Vision, VP/OWL
and the MathPak87 Lite library will be included in one big DLL, and
only the interface sections of the source files will be included.

Programs compiled with the VP/2 Demo Licence will require the the Demo
DLL in order to run and may not be distributed.
