You've obviously never had the pleasure (?) of trying to discern the inner
workings of code written 25 years ago in RPG II then "upgraded'"
to RPG III (sort of) and then RPG/400 (which was RPG III for the AS/400
) then RPG IV but not really.
Along the way it had conflicting standards, redundant code, bug fixes which
rather than fix bugs fix results of bugs introduced at other points in
code, lost routines, undocumented calls to code which lost its
source...................
