JH> True, but then the churches would be free to offer a kinder solution.
JH> Back in Puritan colonies, the church _was_ the school.
RB> I am constrained to point out that the Puritan colonies are nearly two
RB> and a half centuries ago.
JH>
JH> Yes, but the church of two and a half centuries ago produced a
JH> country with a 95% literacy rate.
No argument there.
JH> And it was
JH> seen as a responsibility of the church to provide the poor with an
JH> education.
RB> Like the magnificent job the churches in Europe did for the peasentry
RB> during the Dark Ages?
JH>
JH> Let's talk post reformation clergy here. Martin Luther said that
JH> public schools would become the very gates of hell. What a prophecy!!!
JH> Now that the government has taken over, we have disjointed
JH> communities and parents who believe that it is the government's
JH> responsibility.
RB> No argument. The government is a jealous government, wanting no other
RB> belief entites before it.
RB> Hmm... sounds familiar.
RB> Oh yeah. Two world influencing books have phraseology similar to
RB> that... one which you can find in most every motel room, and one you
RB> can find under Marx in the library.
RB> (For those of you in Rio Linda, the two book in question are the Bible
RB> and Das Kapital.)
JH> It's a shame to hear a supposedly intelligent person declare the
JH> Bible to be on the same footing as the Communist Manifesto. The two
JH> are not similar, and it looks like you need to do some serious reading
JH> before you attempt to make another such comment. Don't make yourself
JH> look ignorant.
Ignorant? Moi? Surely you jest ( and I KNOW your name is Jean and not
hirley)
on that score. Lemme 'splain you why Das Kapital and the Bible are similar.
Both tomes are the foundation of their particular following. 'Kay?
Whew. Now that that is hammered out, I feel MUCH better.
JH> Maranatha (for those of you in Las Vegas, that's "The Lord is
JH> coming") Jean Halverson
I DO know that much Aramaic, Jean. I am always amazed at the fundies that
quote
this... but isnt that Lord the omniscient, omnipresent, all-knowing Lord?
Omni-
presence (seems to me) would sort of preclude "The Lord Comes!", 'cuz He is
already HERE.. and THERE.. and EVERYWHERE... under the doctrine of
omnipresence.
I would appreciate a reply without invective or proselytizing.
RKB
... The flogging will continue until the morale improves.
