EDUCATOR ASTRONAUT REPORT CARD:
EARTH CREW BRINGS WORLD TOGETHER TO EXPLORE
As NASA's Educator Astronaut Program (EAP) recruitment
phase comes to a close April 30, the next phase of engaging
students, teachers and parents to explore space is gearing
up and taking flight through NASA's Earth Crew activity.
International participants are welcomed and encouraged to
join the Earth Crew, NASA's Web-based educational program.
There are more than 10,000 U.S. Earth Crew members. Earth
Crew activities enable students, educators and parents to
interact with astronauts, scientists and engineers in
projects and missions. New inspiring and educational Earth
Crew Missions will be available on the Educator Astronaut
Web site in May.
Through the EAP, students and the public are encouraged to
help NASA recruit teachers who can create out-of-this-world
ways to educate students. Educator Astronauts will become
permanent members of NASA's astronaut corps and use
innovative space tools to teach thousands of students about
math and science. The EAP has received more than 7,400
teacher nominations.
The EAP is part of NASA's larger Education Enterprise.
"NASA's education mission is to inspire the next generation
of explorers," said Dr. Adena Williams Loston, NASA's
associate administrator for education. "Teachers, students
and parents can use the International Space Station as
their laboratory, conduct their own research at Mars, and
explore the universe with our latest technologies. We
provide learning experiences as only NASA can," she said.
