BL>> Oh, well. You can't say that I've *never* had a failed connect. BL>> Your bloody Spirit dumped me yesterday. It seemed to go alright, BL>> and then it just went crazy making obscene noises until I put it BL>> out of its misery and hung up. *Much bashing of the "Delete" key here* G'day, I've been sitting back in the shadows watching the sometimes lively debate about the merits (or otherwise?) of your Spirit modem. The above segment of a message caught my attention because it described the only time I've had a problem downloading my messages from 10MTL. I'm always sitting next to the modem (a Banksia Blitzer, 14400 & fax) when connection occurs so I can see/hear what happens. The problem occured when your modem answered the phone. I heard the initial modem talk followed by a brief burst of line noise. I then hear a single tone burst, line noise is then repeated but at a higher level. It's at this point that my modem goes quite and I get a connect signal. This didn't happen on this occassion, the line noise just continued at the louder level "until I put it out of its misery and hung up". Before everyone else says "See, I told you so!", I gotta say its happened to me on several occassions with other BBS's as well. I don't have an opinion as to why this happens, I don't know enough about my "little black box" to form one. I'm certainly NOT saying that the problem is with your modem. How can it, when the same thing happened to other BBSs. Perhaps its caused by the one thing we ALL have in common,Hmmm? Regards, Robert. ...
