subject: Weird Stuff

A caller uploaded two files to me and left a message to me to that
effect. All my new uploads go to UNCHECK. Looking there, I did not find
the files, and so informed the uploader. Later, he uploaded the same two
files. He then left me a message saying that he knew the previous
uploads were there because his terminal renamed the two files on the
subsequent upload.
Looking in UNCHECK from within Max I could see nothing - not the old or
the new. However, from Windows Explorer and from a directory command
from the command line ALL the files were present!
On a hunch, I went back into Max and used the HURL command to throw the
files into another area. No problem. They moved to the new directory and
are now visible there from within Max.
So the question now is whether I've uncovered a Max bug or whether this
is one of Win95's idiocyncracies. Also, as this has happened only to one
caller, maybe the problem somehow lies with him?
In any case, all you SysOps out there might want to compare what you see
in your file areas from within Max from what you see from without.
Not known is whether or not callers could see these "cloaked" files, as
my UNCHECK area is not available to them. If they can't, and a SysOp
allows uploads to a lot of areas, the potential for a real mess for a
lot of people is here. (Not me. My file's areas are very small. )
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated...
