Hello Mike -

->> If the French continue down this path they will find
->> themselves obsolete and forgotten in a world that has no
->> time for them any longer.

TW>> Don't look now but it has already Happened. France has
TW>> been a Non Enity for quite a Few years now.

MR> I think you are both deluding yourselves! The French have
MR> done pretty well of late. In fact they have Airbus
MR> airliners selling all over the world in direct competition
MR> with Boeing,

AIRBUS was a collaboration. France didn't do this alone.

MR> a rocket program that regularly launches satellites for
MR> many countries,

This is somewhat true. They have a limited capability AFAIK.

MR> nuclear reactors for sale to whoever wants one,

Yes, in fact they had just signed a deal to sell them to Saddam
not long ago which probably explains their reluctance to boot
him out of Iraq. ;-)

MR> and countless other leading edge technologies.

Such as?

MR> Let's not even talk about the wines to which US wines by
MR> comparison seem like mouth wash.

Last time I watched a documentary about wine they said that the
differences between California wines and France were mainly
imaginery. I'm not sure that selling booze makes a country
great.

MR> They may have eminently stupid intellectual institutions
MR> and politicians but you are dead wrong to underestimate the
MR> competition!

You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but I really don't
think anyone is underestimating the French.
