Oh sorry, I remember I didn't reply to your original.  Yes,
you can remove those delays IF you get a high-speed connect.
Otherwise, I'm not sure.  Actually, even on a low speed
connect on my 2400 bps modem, I think you only need the first
delay.  I didn't think it was worth mentioning that, the 2400
being a stop-gap measure and all that.  BFN.  Paul.
